CAF sidelines referee Daniel Bennett after Ghana-Uganda blunder

The Confederations of African Football (CAF) has dropped South African referee Daniel Bennett from officiating in the Champions League second-leg semifinal clash between Nady Al Ahly and Etoile du Sahel.

Bennett, who was originally appointed to officiate in the crunch clash at the Borg el Aram Stadium, has been sidelined following his abysmal performance in the 2018 World Cup qualifier between the Cranes of Uganda and the Black Stars in Kampala last Saturday.

Mr Bennett and assistants denied Ghana a perfect goal in the 93rd minute with television replays showing that it was a perfect goal.

The referee also denied Ghana a penalty earlier in the second-half when Ghana midfielder Frank Acheampong was brought down in the box.

The Ghana Football Association has however, reported the referee and his Seychellois assistants to FIFA for their horrendous officiating.

The beleaguered official has however been replaced by fellow South African referee Vitor Gomes to take charge of the tie.
The clash is set for October 22, at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

Asamoah Gyan 'praises' Kwesi Appiah for dropping Ayew brothers

Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has refuted claims that he played a role in Andre and Jordan Ayew’s exclusion from the Black Stars’ game against Uganda.

The Ayew brothers have heavily been criticized by football pundits after the duo excused themselves from Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Congo which the four-time African champions won 5-1 in Brazzaville.

And Kwesi Appiah in his latest call-up dropped the Ayew brothers and there have been reports that Gyan engineered the exclusion of the Andre and Jordan from the team.

“I am also a player in the team and even as a captain I am under the coach. The coach makes his decision and it is normal for people to complain when he makes decisions like this,” he told Accra-based Hot FM

“At the end of the day I am not the coach to be making decisions. Although everybody knows the experience and quality of Jordan and Dede Ayew in the national team but it is the decision of the coach to invite them into the national team or not.

“Everybody is entitled to his opinion as to why the Ayews were dropped. I will not blame anybody but will blame those who are trying to create rivalry between me and the Ayews in the Black Stars which is not helping.

“It is the coach who has made his decision. I am not part of the team same as the Ayews.”

Lilwin pops up at Wayoosi mother's funeral

Kumawood superstar Kwadwo Nkansah LilWin after failing to honour the invitation of his colleague, Wayoosi several times popped up at the latter’s mum’s funeral which happened in Kumasi on Saturday, October 7.

The diminutive actor on Celerity Ride With Zionfelix show complained bitterly about LilWin’s attitude of constantly not attending all events he has invited him for.

Wayoosi bemoaned that his colleague failed to invite him when he lost his father but attended the funeral of LilWin‘s dad even though he was not asked to be present because he thought it might have escaped him.

The actor known privately as Joseph Nana Osei Kofi continued that not long after LilWin’s father’ death, he, Wayoosi also lost his dad and made a formal request to LilWin but he was nowhere to be found on the burial day.

Wayoosi who was not happy about LilWin’s failure to attend his late father’s funeral added that the actor cum musician repeated same act when he invited him for his grandmother’s funeral.

To him, “it was clear that his (LilWin) actions were intentional so I had to advise myself”.

LilWin after disappointing his colleague on different occasions made his presence felt at the final funeral rites of Wayoosi’s mum, Helena Fremah which happened at the Anomangye Park in Kumasi.

Zionfelix.net is reliably informed that Madam Fremah crossed the Styx on Friday, September 1 dawn after a short illness.

Law lecturer’s counter suit against EC boss withdrawn

A Counter suit filed by Mr Maxwell Opoku Agyemang, a Law Lecturer against Mrs Charlotte Osei, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission has been withdrawn.

Mr Opoku Agyemang, who represented some petitioners, seeking Mrs Osei’s impeachment, was sued by the EC boss for defamation.

However, Mr Opoku Agyemang in an Interlocutory Injunction prayed the court to stop Mr Thaddeus Sory from acting as Solicitor for the EC Boss in the defamation case.

The Law Lecturer held that engaging Mr Sory’s firm by Mrs Osei was part of the petition on her impeachment and that Mr Sory’s firm must not represent her.

Appearing before the High Court on Monday, one of the Lawyers of Mr Opoku Agyemang, Mr Julius Opoku Agyei explained that their client, (Mr Opoku Agyemang) had instructed another lawyer to enter appearance in the same matter in a different court.

The Court presided over by Mr Justice Kweku Ackah–Boafo granted the application for withdrawal saying that there was no rule that prevented them from doing so.

‘Ghosts’ caught on camera at famed Colorado hotel

A photograph taken at the Colorado hotel that helped to inspire Stephen King’s bestselling novel “The Shining” shows what appears to be two “ghosts.”

The Mausling family of Aurora, Colorado, participated in a “spirit tour” at the 108-year-old Stanley Hotel in Estes Park last month. After returning home, they noticed a photo taken by John “Jay” Mausling that seemed to show a young girl walking down the stairs.

John Mausling and his wife, Jessica Martinez-Mausling, told HuffPost via email that there were no young girls in their 11-member party or on the tour.

“At first we tried to be logical and think we somehow missed her so we asked our kids, their girlfriends and our friend if they remembered seeing a little girl,” they wrote. “Nobody did. We do not remember seeing anything on the stairs when we took the picture.”

Here’s a close up of the mysterious figure on the stairs:

Ben Hansen, former FBI agent and host of “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files,” said a careful analysis of the photo turned up no obvious signs of trickery.

“I really like this photo,” Hansen said. “Assuming that it’s not doctored, it ranks up there as one of the best photos of possible paranormal evidence I’ve seen. If it is faked, I’ve got to hand it to them for their level of detail and creativity because there’s usually enough easy signs to suggest hoaxing.”

While the ghostly girl stood out the most, the photo may also feature a second apparition.

The Mauslings said that at the time the photo was taken, there were just two people on the stairs: the tour guide and someone else on the tour with a cellphone. However, the image shows what could be a third figure, who appears to be walking up the stairs and away from the tour group:

Hansen said he assumed this figure was just another person walking up the stairs with the same motion blur seen around some of the other people in the image. Then he noticed something else.

“Through the stair railing posts you should see the lower half of this person like you do the tour guide and the shoes of the person on the stairs... but I can’t make out any lower half,” he said.

Hansen added there was no litmus test for a ghost photo so it’s impossible to know for sure just what was in the picture. The Mauslings, for their part, said they don’t necessarily believe in ghosts, but were “open-minded” and didn’t discount that they could exist.

While the Stanley Hotel is a top destination for people who want to visit nearby Rocky Mountain National Park, it’s also a hot spot for those hoping to have a more otherworldly experience. Last year, a photo of a supposed ghost at the hotel made headlines around the world. That photo was snapped in what appeared to be the same location:

After a 1974 stay at the hotel, King called it “the perfect ? maybe the archetypical ? setting for a ghost story.” King wrote on his official website that he and his wife, author Tabitha King, were the only guests when the hotel was about to close for the winter.

“That night I dreamed of my three-year-old son running through the corridors, looking back over his shoulder, eyes wide, screaming. He was being chased by a fire-hose. I woke up with a tremendous jerk, sweating all over, within an inch of falling out of bed. I got up, lit a cigarette, sat in the chair looking out the window at the Rockies, and by the time the cigarette was done, I had the bones of the book firmly set in my mind.”

That dream became King’s third book, 1977?s “The Shining,” which was set at the haunted Overlook Hotel. In 2014, the book was named King’s third-best novel of all time in a Rolling Stone poll.

Bawumia visits survivors of Atomic junction gas explosion

He was accompanied by a number of government officials and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service to the various hospitals the victims were receiving medical attention.

So far, seven people have died, whiles some 68 are receiving treatment, with 64 discharged.

Dr. Bawumia used the opportunity to sympathize with the survivors, and also wished them speedy recovery.

The Vice President also extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He had said early on that government will foot the medical bills of the injured persons, as efforts are being made to introduce a policy that will sanitize the fuel retail sector to avoid such explosions.

Nearly 30 lives have been lost to about eight gas explosions in the last three years. This excludes the twin disaster of flood and fire on June 3, 2015, which killed nearly 150 people.

Some 7 people lost their lives, and 132 others sustained varied degrees of injury in the gas explosion on Saturday.

Samini is just a man with attractive lips but not my type - Stephanie Benson

UK-based Ghanaian singer and performer Stephanie Benson has debunked rumours suggesting she dated musician Samini.

According to her, Samini is a very attractive guy and despite them kissing on some occasions, he is not the type of man she would love to date.

Speaking in an interview on the Delay Show, Stephanie Benson said, “Samini is just a good looking man with attractive lips but he isn’t my type. My husband is my type of man.”

She said the perception that Black women who marry White men always cheat on their husbands is untrue as she has never cheated on her husband in their 29-year marriage.

When asked whether her husband has no issues with her provocative style of dressing and the way she carries herself, Stephanie Benson retorted, “He knows that whatever I come back home to him. 29 years I’ve been married to him, I’ve never cheated on him.”

No DR Congo elections 'until April 2019' - Electoral Commission

Elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo cannot be held until at least April 2019, the electoral commission has said.

But in a statement, the commission said it would need at least 504 days to organise the poll once voter registration was completed.

This flies in the face of an agreement between President Joseph Kabila and the opposition – mediated by the Catholic Church – for elections to take place before the end of the year.

Elections were originally scheduled for November 2016 – and cancelled by the electoral commission citing logistical and financial difficulties.

This meant that President Joseph Kabila stayed on beyond his legal mandate.

Dozens of people died in protests.

According to the Reuters news agency, unrest in the Kasai region has delayed the registration process.

Nana Addo is more 'youthful' in brain than Mahama - Attefah

A communications team member with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Emmanuel Danso Attefah says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is youthful in the brain than former President John Dramani Mahama. He said the former president exhibited extreme incompetence during his tenure.

''Nana is humble, nationalistic, and a doer,. He is affable and a man of timber and calibre. I always say that Nana Addo is more youthful in the brain that Mahama because he is very youth centered. He thinks more about the youth. All his policies affects the youth of Ghana more,'' he said.

The economic situation under the NDC was terribly bad but Nana Addo has shown that, his policies will keep the economy on track.

He said, all the social intervention programmes enjoyed by Ghanaians were rolled out by the NPP including the school feeding, free maternal healthcare which was destroyed by the incompetent NDC.

Ghana he said will work again under the current president who has delivered on his major campaign promises including the free senior high school policy, the restoration of the nursing allowance among others.

He added, the cancellation under the former president was unwise and the reasons assigned to it were needless and unfortunate.

The cancellation he noted brought untold hardship on trainee nurses and that also caused their defeat. The argument that the cancellation increased intake he stressed was illogical and an after thought.

He said, the NPP government is committed and will not do things anyhow.

The president is very committed and will not fail in delivering on his campaign promises.
